Reasons why I am here:

Softball has always been more than just a sport to me—it’s a space where community, resilience, and passion come together. From the rhythm of the game to the relationships built on and off the field, softball has shaped how I lead, connect, and show up for others. As Billie Jean King once said, “Sports are a microcosm of society,” and through softball, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful that truth can be. It has taught me discipline, teamwork, and the importance of creating environments where everyone feels valued and empowered.

My vision in starting a league that intentionally includes women, trans men, trans women, and non-binary individuals comes from a deep belief that sports should be accessible, affirming, and equitable for all. Too often, talented athletes are excluded or made to feel like they don’t belong. I want to change that by building a league rooted in respect, inclusivity, and opportunity—where every player can compete, grow, and be seen for who they are. As Megan Rapinoe has said, “We all have a responsibility to make this world a better place,” and this league is one way to live out that responsibility.

Leadership, to me, is about more than organizing teams or managing logistics—it’s about setting the tone for inclusion, advocating for fairness, and creating a culture where people feel safe to be themselves. Strong leadership ensures that diversity is not just welcomed, but celebrated. It means listening, adapting, and standing up for what’s right, even when it’s not the easiest path. As John C. Maxwell reminds us, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

Softball is more than just a game because of the impact it has beyond the field. It builds confidence, creates lifelong friendships, and gives people a sense of belonging. It teaches perseverance in failure and humility in success. As the legendary Babe Ruth once said, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” Most importantly, it provides a platform to bring people together across different identities and experiences. That’s the kind of environment I am committed to fostering—one where the love of the game unites us, and inclusion makes us stronger.

Assistant Commissioner

Name: Samantha DuBray

Board Duties:

Supports team communication, registration follow-up, player ratings, scheduling and season logistics.

Reasons why I am here:

I am truly honored to serve as Assistant Commissioner during this pivotal chapter for the Nashville Music City League. As we work to bring ASANA to our city, my focus is on ensuring that our growth is rooted in the values of our players. This league is about more than softball—it's about creating a safe, inclusive sanctuary where cis women, trans men, trans women, and nonbinary athletes can play with pride, compete with heart, and form lasting connections.

My goal is to foster an environment where every athlete feels seen and celebrated both on and off the diamond. I am incredibly excited to help build a space where the competition is fierce, but the support is even stronger. I look forward to witnessing the people who show up for the love of the game, but stay for their chosen family.

Secretary

Name: Ashleigh Scott

Board Duties:

Responsible for maintaining official records, documenting board meetings, and coordinating internal communications for the league.

Reasons why I am here:

I am excited to help start Nashville Music City League and bring ASANA to Nashville because it will provide a safe outlet for cis women, trans men, trans women and non binary softball players to unite and participate in leagues and tournaments throughout not only Nashville but all over the United States. It opens a new outlet for players to express their genuine selves where they can feel supported and hopefully at home. I have participated in six ASANA World Series tournaments, ranging from DC on the East Coast to San Diego on the West Coast. I personally know how welcoming the ASANA community is and how dedicated the board and member cities are to making ASANA safe, fun, and diverse. I can't wait to see how our league grows!

Recruitment\ Events Coordinator

Name: Cathrine Lopez

Board Duties:

Plans and promotes recruitment initiatives and league events to grow participation and enhance player experience.

Reasons why I am here:

I’m honored to be part of this group of women bringing ASANA back to Nashville. I had the privilege of playing with ASANA in 2007 and 2008, and that experience had a lasting impact on me—both on and off the field. Being part of a community that values inclusion, connection, and empowerment helped shape who I am today.

I’m passionate about creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and safe to be themselves. As part of the board, I’m committed to helping build a league that not only celebrates the game but also fosters a strong sense of belonging and acceptance for everyone involved. I’m excited to reconnect with the sport I love while helping others find their place in it as well.
